The Viper Wire Rope Lubricator forces lubricant under high pressure through the wire rope, displacing water and old grease and penetrating to the core. The result: longer rope life, safer operation, and dramatically reduced maintenance time.
The Viper MKII Wire Rope Lubricator series ensures the fast and effective cleaning and lubrication of steel ropes. Wire ropes with a diameter of 6 mm (1/4″) to 165 mm (6-1/2″) can be lubricated at speeds of up to 2,000 meters per hour.
The high-strength cast aluminium collar is lightweight, and combined with design features such as the unique built-in carrying handles, the Viper WRL is easy to install and operate. The collars are supplied complete with stainless steel hardware to provide maximum protection against corrosion.
The Viper WRL package eliminates the HS&E risks associated with manual lubrication, while delivering the best possible lubrication results for your steel cables.
The Viper WRL is available in three sizes: Maxi MKII, Mid MKII, and Mini MKII. Manufactured from high-quality cast aluminum with a robust protective coating. Each Viper Wire Rope Lubricator comes in a robust aluminum storage case, with all the necessary components to get you started.
Steel cables between 50mm and 165mm
Steel cables between 6mm and 67mm
Steel cables between 6mm to 44mm
The Viper WRL has been developed with safety and the environment in mind. When used correctly, the Viper WRL offers various benefits in terms of health, safety, and the environment.
What makes the Viper WRL seal so special?
The unique Viper seal design is the core of the Viper WRL package. The selected polyurethane material is wear-resistant to ensure a long service life, yet flexible enough to conform to the rope. This flexibility helps reduce leakage, but more importantly, the lubricant is massaged into the cable, increasing lubricant penetration and the corrosion protection it provides.
Other steel cable lubricants tend to only coat the outside of the rope. The length of the Viper Mid and Maxi collar/seal combination also increases the residence time of the rope with the lubricant, which aids in application and ultimately leads to a longer rope life and extended lubrication intervals.
Viper seals have proven to last > 15,000 meters of rope.
Favorable quality | What does this mean for you? |
Material | – The selected polyurethane has high wear resistance, which means it is resistant to wear. As a result, the seal can be used to lubricate thousands of meters of rope without needing to be replaced. |
Connection design/Rib length | – The internal design of the Viper seals allows them to mold to the rope. This creates a pumping action that massages the lubricant into the rope. As the seal conforms to the rope, there is constant contact, enabling consistent lubrication. |
Length of the seal | – Due to the longer residence time between the cable and the seal, the lubricant has a greater chance to be massaged into the cable structure. |
With the Viper WRL scraper plates, broken threads can be safely pushed into the seal, ensuring that the rope and the seal are not damaged.
Viper Rope Cleaners make it possible to remove contamination or accumulated old lubricant from the steel cable before lubrication, thereby improving the effectiveness of the lubrication process via the Viper WRL. Viper Rope Cleaners (VRCs) are available in left- and right-hand versions, for 6- and 8-strand cables, and other strand configurations upon request.
For certain types of ropes for which the standard Viper Rope Cleaner is not suitable, the Viper ‘Smooth Bore’ rope cleaner is available. The Smooth Bore Rope Cleaner is typically used on hoses with a large number of outer strands, some non-rotating ropes, ROV ropes, etc., where the valleys between the strands are minimal and a standard Viper Rope Cleaner is not easy to use.
For optimal visual inspection of steel cable assets, it is crucial that old lubricants and contaminants are removed from the outer strands and valleys of the cable prior to inspection. Viper WRL has revolutionized the cable cleaning process by combining CAD-based design with manufacturing techniques and composite materials to deliver the Viper Manual Rope Cleaner Solution Kit. This kit is used in conjunction with our Viper Rope Cleaners (VRC).
